IIO called in after man shot by police in Kelowna

KELOWNA (NEWS 1130) — B.C.’s independent police watchdog is probing a police shooting in Kelowna that injured a man Saturday night.

Mounties say the shooting happened just after midnight when a driver failed to pull over for police.

“An interaction occurred between the officer and the driver which led to shots being fired by police. The driver continued but was later admitted to a local area hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening gunshot injuries. He has been arrested but remains in hospital,” says a news release from the RCMP.

The Independent Investigation Office has been called in to determine “whether police actions or inactions are linked to the man’s injuries.”
