VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A fire broke out at an apartment building near Beach Avenue and Broughton Street Sunday afternoon, with up to 12 firetrucks being sent to the scene.
Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services has confirmed it was a second alarm fire. They were called in around 1:30 p.m. and the fire was out by 3 p.m.
Assistant Fire Chief Ken Gimmell says the fire was contained to one unit on the third floor.
“The suite was fully involved, the hallways were filled with smoke, we aggressively attacked it,” he says, adding the sole occupant of the apartment got out safely.

Although only one suite was damaged by fire, the surrounding hallway and units will likely have smoke and water damage.
“There’s never a good time for a fire, ever. But the holiday season is especially bad. Some of these occupants won’t have anywhere to stay for the next few nights.”
No injuries have been reported and the cause is being investigated.
