Unattended pot causes fire in Chilliwack apartment

By

CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) —  A pot left on a stove led to a fire in a Chilliwack apartment Monday afternoon.

The Chilliwack Fire Department said it started around 2:30 in an apartment complex on Storey Avenue near Gee Street. There was light smoke in the apartment hallways when firefighters arrived.

“This fire appears to be accidental and caused by unattended cooking oil,” the fire department said in a release. “Chilliwack Fire Dept. wants to remind the public to never leave cooking unattended and that
smoke alarms save lives.”

The resident used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire, but there were some fire and smoke damage to the apartment.

No one was injured.
