Man arrested for series of suspicious fires in Saanich

SAANICH (NEWS 1130) — A man was arrested following a series of small fires in Saanich, which prompted a public plea for awareness and help earlier this month.
Saanich Police said they arrested a 34-year-old Justin Dorey in connection with fires started between Dec. 6 and Dec. 20.

“There have been no further fires reported in Saanich since December 20,” Cst. Markus Anastasiades said in a release. “While the motive for these fires is not clear at this time, we are very pleased to have this person in custody, as the randomness and frequency of these fires was very concerning to investigators.”
Dorey remains in custody and his court appearance is set for January to face charges of arson.
