B.C. lottery wins record-breaking in 2019: BCLC

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — Seems like people in B.C. were pretty lucky this year when it came to buying lotto tickets, according to the British Columbia Lottery Corporation.

The BCLC says a record-breaking $785 million was paid out, and players won more than 86 million times.

In August, Richmond’s Joseph Katalinic, a retired fisherman, also broke a B.C. record when he won a $60 million Lotto Max prize. The win was the biggest single lotto prize ever awarded in the province, surpassing the previous $50 million payout.

“Playing the lottery is about the chance to have life-changing dreams come true and this year’s record-breaking amount of winnings has delivered bigger dreams than ever before for our players,” BCLC’s Vice-President Kevin Gass said in a release.

There were also four consecutive $1 million Guaranteed Lotto 6/49 Prize wins at the end of November. This is only the second time this has happened in B.C.
