BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Sunday night was marked by violence in Burnaby, after reported gunfire between two vehicles sent one person to the hospital.

A witness who lives at the corner of Willingdon Avenue and Burke Street says he heard what he describes as a short burst of rapid gunfire around 10:30 p.m. before a car veered off Willingdon, narrowly missing his fence and crashing into some shrubbery at the house next door.

When the Mounties arrived, he says he was told he should stay inside.

Apparently three people were in the car and the Burnaby RCMP says one person was taken to the hospital but should recover.

There are reports the gunfire came from another vehicle but the Mounties have yet to confirm that or provide a statement on the identity of the victim or any possible suspects.

There’s no word if any arrests have been made or if this was a targeted incident.

Willingdon Avenue was shut down either side of Burke Street overnight, but reopened to traffic early Monday morning.

We’re expecting more details from the Mounties later today.
