Procession of cabs and funeral held in honour of taxi driver killed in crash

Family have come in from around the world to pay their respects. Isabelle Raghem reports.

DELTA (NEWS 1130) — A 28-year-old taxi driver killed in a crash in East Vancouver late last month is being remembered Wednesday.

The general manager of Yellow Cab says the day began with a procession of taxis to the Riverside Funeral Home in Delta, where family, friends, and colleagues attended a funeral for Sanehpal Singh Randhawa.

His taxi was t-boned by a Share Now Smart car that ran a red light in the area of 1st Avenue and Renfrew Street on December 29th. He had two passengers in the car at the time.

Randhawa had been working for Yellow Cab for the last three years.

Police have said they think speed and alcohol may have been factors, and believe the driver of the Smart Car evaded a road-check before the crash.

That driver has been identified in reports out of Ireland as 29-year-old Gary Holohan from that country.

A GoFundMe page has been started for Randhawa’s family back in India.
