BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — Burnaby RCMP is thanking someone who spotted a suspected impaired driver last week.

The alert citizen noticed the driver around 5 p.m. on Jan. 2 while travelling along Highway 1 just past Langley. He followed the driver all the way to Burnaby.

Two children were noticed in the vehicle with the impaired driver.

The driver drove into a ditch near Cariboo Road and Gaglardi Way in Burnaby and was eventually stopped by Mounties around the area of Eastlake Drive and Beaverbrook Drive.

“Along with an alert citizen, our officers were able to prevent a collision that could potentially have had unthinkable consequences,” says Cpl. Mike Kalanj. “We are very thankful to the citizen who did not try to get involved or stop the vehicle himself but instead ensured that we had accurate information on where the vehicle was going.”

No one was hurt.

A 44-year-old man is facing a number of related dangerous driving charges.
