VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – High winds have forced BC Ferries to make the decision to suspend service on all its major routes into the afternoon.
“We are being affected by this windstorm that has hit the South Coast,” Deborah Marshall with BC Ferries tells NEWS 1130.
She says service between Tsawwassen and Duke Point, between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay, and between Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay has been halted for the time being due to high winds.
As of 10:00 a.m., sailings are cancelled into the mid-afternoon hours.

“We are closely monitoring the situation,” Marshall adds. “It does depend on the wind speed, the wind direction, the sea state, as well as the wave height. This is quite a wicked storm that has been predicted, and if everything comes to fruition as predicted by Environment Canada, I would expect more than just those couple of routes to be affected this morning.”
Marshall recommends checking the schedule before heading out to catch a ferry.
