BC Hydro works to restore power in parts of Lower Mainland, Sunshine Coast

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Thousands of BC Hydro customers in the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast are in the dark Sunday.

Kevin Aquino from BC Hydro tells NEWS 1130 that crews are working on getting power back on for those left without it.

“We do have a committed in house meteorologist,” he says.

“We have been tracking this weather quite closely, so we do know about storms before they hit and this definitely enables us to ramp up our BC Hydro crews, contractor crews and call centre agents, so if the lights do go out, we are ready to respond.”

Aquino adds the hardest hit area in Metro Vancouver is Burnaby, and the reasons behind it vary.

“We do see one power outage with a tree down across our wires, so our crews will be working all throughout the morning to ensure all the customers are back up.”
