Crash along causeway near Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal creating major backups for anyone trying to get around the area

This comes a day after all sailings along major routes were cancelled due to weather

TSAWWASSEN (NEWS 1130) – A head-on crash near the Tsawwassen Ferry terminal has left one person seriously hurt and is the reason behind some major backups for anyone trying to get out of that area.

The incident along Highway 17 leading to and from the terminal has blocked traffic down to one lane. The crash involved three vehicles near Tsatsu Shores, according to Delta Police.

The crash has not only snarled traffic, but also meant a number of passengers were stuck on a ferry that was waiting at sea, unable to dock for a short period of time.

The crash comes on a busy day, after all sailings along major routes were cancelled on Sunday due to weather.

BC Ferries announced in a tweet some sailings were cancelled due to a “staffing issue” following the accident.

“Well there’s ferries that had been cancelled all weekend, so we’re just getting off the Rock now,” Lance, a caller to NEWS 1130, says. “I think everybody’s taking it pretty well in stride.”

Meanwhile, BC Ferries says traffic will be alternating until the causeway is clear.

“Customers travelling to and from Tsawwassen are being advised that they may experience a delay in accessing or leaving the terminal,” BC Ferries says on its website.

It adds it’s doing everything it can to make sure reserved customers have their reservations honoured on whatever next available sailing comes.
