BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — Rumours of women being kidnapped in Burnaby are a hoax according to Mounties.
The internet rumours prompted Burnaby RCMP to take action, saying they have no information to indicate women in the city are in danger of being kidnapped.
Posts shared on social media are suggesting would-be kidnappers are using tactics like tying money tainted with drugs or other methods to distract women and then force them into cars.

Mounties reviewed the posts and say they have no evidence this is taking place and are pleading with people not to share the rumors online, as it will create unnecessary panic in the community.
“The information in the posts has been circulated in the past in the United States and appears at this time to be a hoax,” RCMP said in a tweet.
