Vancouver police investigating homicide after man found dead in parking lot

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A man has been found dead in a car, in the parking lot of a popular mall in Vancouver.

The Vancouver Police Department says the victim was found Saturday night around 8:30 at the Marine Gateway Cineplex near Southwest Marine Drive and Cambie Street.

No arrests have been made, but police do not think there is a risk to the public.

Some shoppers at the complex Sunday afternoon say they are shocked to hear the quiet community hub had become the scene of a murder.

For years some people have come to the mall to catch a movie, get a coffee or go to the gym. A few people passing by add the violence Saturday night is unnerving.

“Typically, this type of thing is certainly not around these areas. This is one of the first times that we’ve seen something so close to home,” one man tells NEWS 1130.

Last night a passer-by noticed a man’s body in a car in the Cineplex parking lot and called police.

A few listeners told NEWS 1130 the VPD had blocked off all the exits from the parkade Saturday night, checking cars that were leaving and recording their license plate numbers, and phone numbers.

If you have any information about the incident contact the VPD’s Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
