Police say a 30-year-old man has been arrested after he jumped and held onto a moving car

A video was captured showing the man clinging to a car turning right, and not letting go as it drove off

The man and driver apparently know each other, but it's unclear what happened before the video was shot

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS 1130) – A man’s been arrested after a bizarre incident was caught on camera Saturday afternoon.

A video posted to Facebook shows a man shouting and jumping on a dark-greyMazda 3 as it tries to make a right turn in the area of Dewdney Trunk Road and Laity Street in heavy traffic.

Even when the vehicle speeds up, the man hangs on — first to the hood, then to the passenger side door.

“He’s still on there. He’s all the way on there, he’s still going,” the person behind the camera can be heard saying, as the car slows a few blocks away after driving with the man hanging off of the door for some time.

It’s unclear what exactly prompted the incident, but Mounties say the two people know each other.

This incident was shared on social media before police received the video evidence, which caused much speculation, Constable Julie Klaussner says in a release. We understand in this day and age the allure of social media but we want to remind the public that, these are real people. Please consider the perspective of the victim and the fact that what you share, or when you share, may have an impact on the investigational outcome. There is always more to the before, during and after of an incident and not just a short video clip you see on social media.

The 30-year-old man is known to police and was apparently taken into custody for assault and mischief.
