ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – Slow down, and pay attention.

That’s coming from the Abbotsford Police Department after they ticketed 81 drivers for speeding in a school zone over just two days last week.

Sgt Judy Bird says most weren’t even aware they were in a school zone when they were pulled over by police.

“A lot of people didn’t even realize so I think it’s important whether you’re travelling through Abbotsford or in another jurisdiction, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings,” she says. “If you’re in a school zone pay attention to the neon signs.”

She says a ticket for speeding in a school zone ranges from $196 to $483.

they will continue to monitor drivers in those areas surrounding schools and playgrounds.

“We will be doing more enforcement in our community with respect to school zones. We wanted to remind people to slow down, the weather is rainy and it’s slippery.”
