Mayors’ Council approves business case for Surrey-Langley SkyTrain

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS 1130) — The proposed Surrey-Langley SkyTrain project is taking another step toward reality.

The Mayors’ Council has given the business case the thumbs up, and TransLink believes final approval could arrive by the summer. If that happens, construction could begin by 2022.

Still, there’s only enough funding to extend the line to Fleetwood with a budget of $1.6-billion.

The next step is for senior levels of government to examine the business case.

In 2018, Mayors’ Council voted to suspend plans for the Surrey LRT project, despite $50-million already having been spent on planning, and $20-million on pre-construction work.
