VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Despite a break in the weather, keeping the umbrella and rain boots around might still be a good idea.
NEWS 1130 Meteorologist Russ Lacate says more rain is on the way and this month is on track for nearing the wettest one on record at Vancouver International Airport, which was 283.6 millimetres in January 2006, “it was all rain that year.”
As of midnight Thursday, he says there was already 222 mm of precipitation and about another 10 Friday morning.
“We’re still a ways off from getting there. We would still need another 50 mm of rain before midnight — not impossible, but that’s a pretty tall order for YVR,” he says.

“Either way it might well end up being a podium-finish close to the top three wettest Januaries ever,” Russ says.
But he estimates the number will probably be between 230 and 240 mm for the month.
Meantime, Mount Seymour and Grouse Mountain had to shut down for the day due to weather.
