Man arrested for Surrey robbery facilitated by fake post on online app

SURREY (NEWS 1130) — One of two men who robbed people after luring then through ads on an app in Surrey has been arrested.

Surrey RCMP say 19-year-old Martin Djunga has been charged with robbery, use of an imitation firearm, and two breaches of court-ordered conditions.

The robbers allegedly advertised cell phones for sale in January using the ‘Let’s Go’ app.

“When the buyer met up with the sellers, they were robbed of their personal property and the money they had brought along for the purchase of the cell phone,” says a release from Mounties.

Police are still trying to identify the second suspect. They describe him as a black male, with short black hair who was wearing a black or navy blue baseball cap, black sweatshirt and sweat pants at the time of the incident.

“We would like to raise the public’s awareness of the risks involved in these types of buy and sell transactions,” says Cpl. Rob Maione in a statement. “Even when meeting in a public place, there can be risks in meeting up to exchange cash or high value items with people you are not familiar with.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
