Calgary woman reflects on her experience on ‘Jeopardy’

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – It was a once in a lifetime experience for a Calgary woman who appeared on her favourite game show.

Krystyna Ng, who works as a corporate strategist, was a contestant on the show “Jeopardy” which aired Tuesday night.

“It was so much fun,” said Ng speaking to 95.9 CHFM Wednesday. “Thank you for rooting for me Calgarians and family and friends.”

Ng has been watching game shows like Jeopardy for the past 30 years. She said watching these shows helped her to learn English when her family first came to Canada.

“In 1989, 30 years ago, we did not have the entertainment options we have today from the internet, YouTube, cable TV. There were 13 channels (and) to practice, I started watching Wheel of Fortune. That was helpful by learning how to put letters together to form words.”

Although she didn’t win the show that day, Ng said it didn’t matter as she finally got the chance to meet one of her idols, host Alex Trebek.

“He’s a great Canadian. I just can’t believe I stood on the same stage with him and had a picture with him. That was so unexpected and I’ll take that memory with me for the rest of my life.”

Ng also spoke about what it was like behind the scenes and preparing for the show when the cameras were off.

“We get to practice the buzzer and get to practice two mock rehearsal games. The audience hasn’t arrived. We get a legal briefing, contestant orientation. The coordinators, they kept us entertained, they kept us feeling like a team.”

Ng finished second place on the show and walked away with a $2,000 consolation prize.
