Flag enthusiasts gather at Queen Elizabeth Park for National Flag of Canada Day

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A number of people have braved the wet weather to watch the Canadian flag be raised at Queen Elizabeth Park, in honour of National Flag of Canada Day.

The event celebrates the first time the national flag was raised on Parliament Hill in 1965 on February 15.

National Flag of Canada Day is a relatively new holiday itself only being observed since 1996.

However, the celebration did not go as planned as protesters crashed the event, holding Canadian flags reading ‘Oh Canada, our home is Native Land’ in solidarity with First Nations people.
