Langley (NEWS 1130) – At least six dogs have died early Tuesday in a Langley trailer fire.
The number of deceased dogs could be as high as eight, said Langley Township deputy fire chief Bruce Ferguson.
The trailer was near a home used to assist rescued dogs, he added.
“There was nobody living in the trailer.”
Firefighters arrived at the home in the Brookwood area at around 4 a.m., but the trailer was mostly destroyed by then.
“Despite our efforts to knock the blaze down, it was too far gone when we got there, and all of the dogs inside the trailer perished,” Ferguson said.
A person at the home tried to save the dogs and had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
There was a space heater inside the trailer, but it’s not known if it was on.
Ferguson added questions remain whether the property owners had a dog kennel licence.
“I haven’t actually spoken to anyone other than the incident commander on scene and he’s – he’s a dog person, so he was pretty upset about it.”
