71-year-old arrested in White Rock assault leaving man in critical condition

WHITE ROCK (NEWS 113) – A 71-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after an assault at a White Rock condo building that left another in critical condition.

RCMP responded at about 2:45 p.m. to a report of a man down in the Five Corners district, near Johnston Road and Pacific Avenue.

Officers arrived to find an unconscious elderly man, with visible injuries to his upper body.

Life saving measures were taken by police, White Rock Fire and BC Ambulance, said RCMP Const. Chantal Sears.

The victim was taken to hospital, where police said his condition remains critical.

Witnesses said the injured man had on a neck brace when he was placed in an ambulance.

At 6:15 p.m. police arrested a 71-year-old White Rock resident. He was released with several conditions and a future court date, Sears added.

Charges of aggravated assault are being considered.
