Petition supports father’s push for other police to investigate realtor’s murder

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A father’s push to have his daughter’s murder case turned over to another police department is getting international support.

A woman in Indiana, U.S., Ashley Turner, has started a change.org petition in an effort to help solve a killing on Vancouver Island 12 years ago.

The petition is addressed to Minister of Public Safety Mike Farnworth, saying the case of 24-year-old Lindsay Buziak needs to be taken out of the hands of the Saanich Police Department.

Buziak was working as a realtor, showing a house in Saanich when she was murdered in 2008.

Her father, Jeff Buziak, says he’s proud of the people prepared to step up and do something.

“I’ve said goodbye to my daughter. This is now a citizen thing. This is me saying I grew up in a country where there’s laws and there’s supposed to be justice, and I’m not seeing that.”

Buziak, who lives in Calgary, said it’s unacceptable that 12 years have passed without an answer and that the case should be handed over to another agency.

“As with many people, they tell me, something about it just makes them want to get more interested and not let it go.”

The petition had close to 3,000 signatures as of Friday.
