Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Tri-Cities parents warned people with contact to COVID-19 may have attended school

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS 1130) — Parents of kids in Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows and the Tri-Cities are being notified that people who’ve been in contact with B.C.’s most recent COVID-19 case may have attended school in the region.

A letter from the Fraser Health Authority sent out to parents in School Districts 42 and 43 stresses that the individuals were not showing any signs or symptoms of illness while attending school and remain well although they are currently isolated.

The letter adds there is no public health risk at schools and no evidence of novel coronavirus circulating in the community.

“At this time, we are not recommending testing or assessment for anyone who may have been in contact with this (or any) asymptomatic individual, regardless of travel or contact history,” the letter reads. “The risk to British Columbians remains low.”

The letter also reminds everyone to follow proper respiratory hygiene etiquette like staying at home when sick, washing your hands for at least 20 seconds, and avoiding touching your face, eyes and mouth.

B.C.’s most recent new coronavirus case, announced on Thursday, is a woman in her 30s who had recently returned to the Fraser Valley from Iran.

She is B.C.’s sixth COVID-19 patient, although it was announced this past week that the province’s first case has fully recovered.
