Man pleads guilty to three charges in stabbing of woman, Delta police officer

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – The man accused of stabbing a woman and a Delta Police officer a year ago pleaded guilty Monday to three charges, including attempted murder.

The man, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, pleaded guilty to one count each of attempted murder and unlawful confinement in relation to the woman.

He also pleaded guilty to aggravated assault against the officer.

The charges relate to a stabbing incident at Immaculate Conception School on Feb. 20, 2019.

Delta Police Sgt. John Jasmins was off-duty and picking his kids up from school when he saw an altercation between a man and a woman at the school and intervened.

The officer and the woman both suffered serious stab wounds, according to the Delta police.

Other officers quickly arrived and caught the man. He stayed in custody before making his court appearance.

“For us as a police department, it’s gratifying to see these three guilty pleas,” said Delta Police Chief Neil Dubord.

“These are very serious charges, and reflect the gravity of what occurred a year ago.”

Jasmins said his children saw everything that happened.

He has since returned to work.

The woman was seriously hurt and is still recovering, but Dubord said he has no doubts Jasmins saved her life.

The suspect initially faced 10 charges.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 4 and 5.
