VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Vancouver police arrested six people Tuesday after reading an injunction to clear the protest blocking the main entrance to the Port of Vancouver.

Indigenous rights and pipeline protesters set up a blockade Monday at East Hastings and Clark Drive.

Officers moved in after noon Tuesday and read the injunction to the protesters.

“Our intention is to read the injunction to the group, and anyone who does not comply will be subject to arrest.” a VPD officer said.

One person was initially arrested and escorted to a van. Five more were arrested a short time later.

In total, four women and two men were arrested for refusing to honour a B.C. Supreme Court order guaranteeing access to the port, police said.

VPD Sgt. Aaron Roed said each arrest was peaceful.

“We don’t want to see anybody getting hurt. We don’t want to see officers getting hurt,” he added. “They were able to state what they were doing for their cause. They had their voices heard. They are being dealt with at our Vancouver Police jail.”

The intersection reopened shortly after the arrests as protesters moved away from Hastings and Clark and truck traffic resumed at the main port entrance.
