VANCOUVER( NEWS 1130) – Staff at a Vancouver brewery are not crying in their red ale.
Comedian, actor, and director Ricky Gervais has said Tuesday on Twitter that he remembers thinking “Gypsies Tears” at Parallel 49 was the best beer he’d ever tasted.
The name of the beer was later changed to Northwest Red Ale Ruby Tears.
It was changed again on Wednesday, after the tweet, to Ricky Tears, said Claire Mullane, with Parallel 49 Brewing, on Triumph Street by Victoria Drive.
“So, I mean, we would love to have a bit more fun with it.”
I like so many and I can’t remember all the names. I like Brooklyn lager and loads from different micro breweries around the world. I remember thinking ‘Gypsies Tears’ in Vancouver was the best beer I’d ever tasted though.

She added staff are thrilled with the attention the brewery has received since the endorsement by Gervais.
“Needless to say, Ricky’s going to be invited down to the brewery any time that he’s here in town — he’s due in town in August, so we’d love to have him down and we want to get him in, hopefully.”
Mullane said the brewery wants to donate 25 cents from each pint and $1 from every six-pack of Ricky Tears sold in B.C. to an animal charity of Gervais’ choice.
