Evo upgrades services as Car2Go leaves Vancouver

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — As one car-sharing company leaves North America, another Vancouver-based company is upgrading its app.

Evo’s Vice President Tai Silvey says the upgrades are coincidental to Car2Go’s departure from the city.

“But certainly as we prepare for a market without Car2Go with increased usage, this app update is part of the preparation,” he says.

Service for the app was taken offline overnight Sunday for repairs, and Silvey says the changes should fix some bugs.

“The app that we had before was causing some slowness during peak-volume times, and what that would cause is some members not being able to access a vehicle at all.”

He adds there has been a noticeable increase in sign-ups in recent weeks.

Silvey says the company is planning to add an additional 250 Evo vehicles on the road in April to make up for the shortfall left by the loss of their direct competitor.
