Child porn charges laid against Surrey man with links to Scouts Canada

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A Surrey man with connections to Scouts Canada has been charged with child pornography offences.

Edward Johannas Vandeyck, 57, has been charged with accessing, possessing and distributing child pornography. Surrey RCMP say he was “in a position of trust, and has been in direct contact with children in the community as a result of his affiliation with Scouts Canada.”

Vandeyck’s LinkedIn profile says he was a Troup Scouter, a volunteer leader, for 25 years between September 1992 and June 2018. The job description says he “joined as a leader for my two children. I continue to volunteer as I find it challenging and satisfying. Working with children, watching them develop into worthwhile citizens is gratifying.”

The police investigation began back in September after a proactive police search found someone was making child pornography available on the internet. Police searched a home in South Surrey on Dec. 5, 2019 and charges were laid last Friday.
