CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) – Disturbing video making the rounds on social media who a teen being sprayed in the face with bear spray in a residential area of Chilliwack.

The video appears to be surveillance footage from a nearby home in the area of Reece Avenue and Williams Street on Wednesday afternoon.

The video shows two groups of teenaged boys walking past each other and getting into a verbal confrontation.

After a short explicit back and forth, one teen is seen pulling out a canister and spraying another individual with a substance.

Inspector Steve Vrolyk with Chilliwack RCMP says the teens have been identified after a police report was filed.

“The RCMP is aware of an incident that happened on Reese Avenue in Chilliwack, involving two groups of youth where it appears that a noxious substance was deployed by one of the youths against another one,” he says. “Obviously, as police, we are deeply concerned. For this to go to this level is definitely deeply concerning. A police report was filed and all parties have been identified. They are all young offenders.”

Vrolyk was not able to reveal any information about the teens involved such as age, or if charges have been filed as those involved are young offenders.

He says it’s not clear whether it was pepper spray or bear spray that was used in the attack, only saying there were no serious injuries reported.

Vrolyk says the next steps involved working with the school district to determine the best path forward for all parties involved.
