Man arrested for fatal New Year’s assault in Oppenheimer Park

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A 50-year-old man has been arrested for the fatal New Year’s Day assault of a 62-year-old at Oppenheimer Park.

Vancouver Police arrested 50-year-old Glen Domenic Martin last Thursday on a charge of manslaughter.

“Homicide investigators have worked meticulously on this file to gather evidence and recommend charges,” says Cst. Tania Visintin. “We hope this arrest brings some closure to the victim’s friends and family and the community.”

Jesus Cristobal-Esteban was assaulted near the basketball court in the northeast corner of the park on New Year’s Day. He was taken to the hospital by paramedics, fell unconscious, and died the next day as a result of his injuries.

Police previously said they believe there was some sort of interaction prior to the assault on Cristobal-Esteban.

Martin is in custody.
