SURREY (NEWS 1130) — A man caught driving a semi while impaired in Surrey Wednesday night won’t be back on the road for 90 days.

RCMP pulled over the 35 year-old near Fraser Highway and 160 Street in Cloverdale just before midnight.

He was pulled over after being spotted driving without headlights on, and the vehicle has been impounded for a month.

This follows a recent enforcement blitz on truckers. Thirty-three commercial vehicles were inspected, nine were taken off the road and 11 were cited for infractions.

“To find this impaired commercial vehicle operator, as well as a large number of mechanical violations is concerning,” says Sgt. David Chu in a release.

“Commercial vehicle inspections and sobriety checks for all operators of conveyances such as taxis, buses and commercial vehicles may be conducted at any time. We will continue our enforcement actions to make our roads safer for all.”
