VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) —  Two Vancouver schools are closed as a precaution after a student was identified with a presumptive case COVID-19.

The University Canada West and the Visual College of Art and Design are closed until Monday after a student from UCW was identified with the virus. The student’s father tested positively for COVID-19 and had visited the student after being overseas.

The student and their roommate are both in isolation.

“Owing to these immediate actions taken by the University, the risk to students, staff and faculty remains low. Business continuity plans have been enacted to take all possible precautions to ensure the health and safety of those involved with the University and the wider community,” reads a statement from UCW.

Both schools share a building at Pender and Granville streets and, as a precautionary measure, have started disinfecting public areas and back-office areas.

All students and staff in close contact with the affected student have been identified and contacted.

UCW says all programs are expected to continue as usual.
