ZoomerShow organizers say Vancouver event will go on despite COVID-19 fears

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The organizers behind this weekend’s ZoomerShow in Vancouver are stressing their function is still a go.

Organizers say the Vancouver Convention Centre will be exercising extra precautions amid the COVID-19 outbreak, but believe the risk level concerning the virus is still low.

“The convention centre will have lots of sanitization processes going on so I’m sure there will be hand sanitizers everywhere, in the washrooms and on the main floor,” Ramona Kaptyn with the Canadian Association of Retired Persons says. “If you want, bring your own. You can buy little bottles of it to carry in your bag or your pocket.”

The event is a consumer show that’s focused on helping people 45 and older live better, according to the convention’s website.

Kaptyn says people seem eager to attend the annual event, and notes none of the vendors have withdrawn despite global virus concerns.

“Of course there’s a big scare about COVID-19 but if you’re healthy and if you haven’t come into contact with somebody who has travelled to major areas where the virus is rampant it’s not a pandemic,” she says. “There’s a lot of fear going on. I mean, there’s no point in being fearful — I’ve already been to three events this week.”

She says if you’re feeling perfectly fine, there’s no reason to stay home, but adds if you’re feeling under the weather, you should opt to stay in.

The ZoomerShow runs March 7 and 8.
