The new cases include a man in his 50s who had travelled to Iran and another woman in her 50s who was close to the household of the man.

Two other people detected with the virus are in their 60s were on the Grand Princess cruise ship quarantined near San Francisco, and are now receiving care in a hospital in the Fraser Health region.

The last two cases involve residents in a long term care home in North Vancouver, and Henry says these are the most troubling cases.

“These cases were identified as part of an outbreak assessment at the facility in response to a staff member testing positive for COVID-19,” a written statement from the province reads.

Henry says she’s now asking people, especially the elderly and those with autoimmune diseases, to take extra precautions when out.

The province says the individuals with the virus are “in the Vancouver Coastal and Fraser Health regions, and were confirmed positive based on testing by the BC Centre for Disease Control.”

The province has activated a pandemics co-ordination plan to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak that had sickened 21 people in the province at that time and is prepared to escalate the plan if needed.

Henry says of the 27 people who have now tested positive for COVID-19 four have recovered, and three are now in hospital, with one woman in her 80s in an intensive care unit.
