Vancouver Island man charged with sexual assault after following women off bus

SAANICH (NEWS 1130) — A 40-year-old man from Sidney, B.C. is charged with two counts of sexual assault after approaching two young women on BC Transit buses.

Two separate incidents involving a 17-year-old girl and a 25-year-old woman are believed to have been instigated by the same man. Police did not disclose his name.

At 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 27, the 17-year-old was approached by the accused, who tried to speak with her. When she exited the bus, the man followed and made several unwanted sexual advances towards her, including touching her inappropriately. She was not hurt in the incident.

The day before at 10 p.m., the 25-year-old said that a man had similarly spoken to her on a bus before following her off and making inappropriate sexual contact. The woman reported the case on March 4.

Saanich Police are advising the public to be aware of their surroundings, travel with someone else and carry a charged cell phone after the incidents.
