West Vancouver private school cancels classes over COVID-19 concerns

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Both campuses of a private West Vancouver school are closing early for Spring Break over concerns of COVID-19.

This includes Collingwood School’s Wentworth campus for junior kindergarten to grade 7 and the Morven campus for grades 8 to 12.

A letter sent out from the head of the school says a “close contact to one of our Collingwood families — not a student family member, or staff member,” tested positive for the virus. The letter explains this is a precautionary measure since the risk is limited.

“Maintaining a sense of calm and vigilance for our students, staff and the larger community is important, and the safety of everyone remains our greatest priority. We have no reason to believe that the family connected to this case has been infected but we wanted to act quickly to safeguard our community.”

The school will be subject to deep cleaning while it is closed. The closure also means all school events including sports are called off for now; and whether any school trips will go forward is still up for discussion.

More than 1,200 students attend Collingwood School. Classes are expected to resume at the end of the month after Spring Break.
