All schools in Seattle closed for two weeks due to COVID-19

SEATTLE (NEWS 1130) – All public schools in Seattle will be closed for two weeks starting Thursday amid concerns about COVID-19, according to Seattle Public Schools.

All school building activities, including school day instruction, childcare, health services and enrichment, are cancelled until further notice.

“Together, we are facing an unprecedented health crisis in our community. In our response to COVID-19, we must depend on the wisdom of our health experts and elected officials and lean on the resolve of our strong community,” says a letter to families from the school district’s office of public affairs.

“This necessary action is an effective way to disrupt widespread infection.”

The school district is following the guidance of Public Health Seattle and King County and implementing preventive and responsive strategies.

Earlier Wednesday, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee banned gatherings and events of more than 250 people in three western Washington counties covering hundreds of miles and millions of people.
