VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – All casinos in B.C. will close indefinitely starting Monday night.

The move comes after provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced further restrictions on public gatherings in an attempt to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week, Henry banned gatherings of more than 250 people. On Monday, she lowered the threshold to 50.

The B.C. Lottery Corporation confirmed that all casinos, gaming centres and bingo halls would be shut down by 11:59 p.m. Monday.

According to a press release, BCLC anticipated the order and had already begun planning to shut down operations on Sunday.

“BCLC put the health of players, employees and communities at the forefront and took measures over the last number of days, informed by ongoing recommendations from the provincial health officer,” the realease says.

On Sunday evening, the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation announced plans to close all 10 of its B.C. locations.
