BC Housing temporarily halts evictions as tenants face financial toll of COVID-19

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Those who live in affordable and subsidized housing in B.C. will catch a break amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

BC Housing has placed a temporary moratorium on evictions, and would allow those people to apply for reduced rates on the monthly cost of rent.

“Many tenants in subsidized housing are particularly vulnerable and face a combination of challenges in addition to their need for housing; it is probable that evictions would tax other social services. This is particularly true at this time, in light of the current COVID-19 situation,” the BC Housing release says.

The process to apply for that rental discount would also be streamlined to make things that much easier.
