BC SPCA slashes adoption fees during COVID-19 outbreak

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — In an effort to open up space at shelters across B.C, the BC SPCA is cutting adoption fees by 50 per cent between March 23 to March 27.

Lorie Chortyk is with the BC SPCA, and says despite the outbreak, there are always animals in need.

“Our goal is to find as many loving homes as possible for the animals currently in our care so that we can continue to help new, incoming animals with our limited staffing capacity during the COVID-19 crisis,” she says.

To reduce the risk of personal contact, Chortyk is asking those interesting in adopting an animal to head to their website spca.bc.ca first and fill out an adoption form.

“Our staff will then contact individuals to set up an in-shelter appointment to meet the animal,” she says.

Staff and volunteers continue to care for animals at facilities, but there is no public access allowed except for appointments for adoptions and emergency surrenders.
