Health-care workers applauded every night in Vancouver when clock strikes 7

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Cheers have filled downtown Vancouver every night over the past several days to show support for healthcare workers battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

At 7 p.m. daily, Vancouver’s West End residents have come out to cheer and applaud workers during their shift change.

Videos and pictures posted online show people on balconies and patios to put their hands together amid mass social distancing measures and people practising self-isolation.

“Tonight’s #WestEnd #Covid7pmcheer in support of our brave health care workers,” Vancouver Park Board General Manger Malcolm Bromley tweeted.

Vancouverites aren’t alone in their efforts to thank frontline workers. Communities around the world have been using the hashtag #clapfordoctors on Twitter and Instagram to spread the word about similar events happening elsewhere.

There have also been calls for applause to happen in other Metro Vancouver cities.

People are still encouraged to practise social distancing, even if they want to show support for those working to combat the outbreak.
