BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — Transit police were able to pull a drunk driver off the road in Burnaby Monday night after he blew through a red light in front of a marked police vehicle.

Sergeant Clint Hampton says the incident occurred at Kingsway and Edmonds just after 7:30 p.m.

“We pulled the vehicle over, checked the driver, the driver stepped out of the vehicle. When he did so, he forgot to put the vehicle into park, so the vehicle actually started rolling. Fortunately, he was able to jump back in the vehicle,” he says.

Witnesses later pulled over to tell officers the man had blown through several other red lights as well.

The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and got his car impounded for 30 days.

Hampton says thankfully the driver was pulled off the road before someone was hurt or killed.
