Canadian passengers on two virus struck princess cruise ships are now safely back home

While their ordeal on open waters has come to an end, the passengers are now required to quarantine

FLORIDA (NEWS 1130) — 250 Canadians made their way home on Friday after being stranded for weeks on two different cruise ships.

Foreign Affairs Minister Fran├žois-Philippe Champagne sent a plane charted by cruise operator Holland America to pick up the travellers.

Only those without symptoms will be allowed back into Canada, and the federal government has said passengers will enter a 14-day isolation under the Federal Quarantine Act.

The MS Zaandam and the MS Rotterdam were stuck at sea, unable to dock until the ship made their way to the Florida coast, with multiple guests showing flu-like symptoms.

Nine passengers tested positive for COVID-19, and four have died.
