One person perishes in White Rock apartment fire

WHITE ROCK (NEWS 1130) — One person died and others were evacuated after a fire at a three-story apartment in White Rock early Monday.

White Rock Fire Rescue and RCMP responded to the fire at Foster Street and Thrift Avenue shortly after 7:30 a.m.

People were evacuated from the building and temporarily sheltered at a community centre, says a release from the city.

Most have since returned home.

The name of the person who passed is not being released for privacy reasons.

“We are a small, tightly-knit city,” said White Rock Mayor Darryl Walker. “When we lose one person, we all feel that loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time, and with all of those people who were temporaryily without a home as a result of the fire.”

White Rock Fire Rescue and RCMP are investigating the cause of the fire.
