Annual Cloverdale Rodeo cancelled for mid-May due to ongoing pandemic

SURREY (NEWS 1130) — The Cloverdale Rodeo has now been called off due to the coronavirus.

In an online statement, the Rodeo says the event which was scheduled for mid-May had to be pulled.

“It’s with heavy hearts the Board came to the decision to postpone the event for one year, resuming in May 2021,” the release reads.

Shannnon Claypool, President of the Cloverdale Rodeo Association, says the move is a big disappointment for rodeo fans.

But he says the best decision and was made in the interest of public safety.

This year would have been the 74th anniversary of the Rodeo and 132nd anniversary of the Country Fair.

“This was an important year for an event which holds a special place in our community,” he says in the release.

“We tip our hats and extend our appreciation to the volunteers, competitors, exhibitors, sponsors and the people of Surrey and everyone from across BC and beyond who support us every year. We look forward to seeing you in 2021.”
