As of Tuesday, the move will be made to help keep the space open to pedestrians, cyclists and joggers who are trying to get from Quayside to Downtown New Westminster while drivers can still use Begbie or Third Avenue upon leaving.
The city says the change will also allow people to avoid close interactions with others on narrow sidewalks.
City staff will be out monitoring the change, and say the closure will remain in place until public health restrictions are lifted.
