54 inmates have now tested positive for COVID-19 at the Mission Institution

Six correctional officers have also tested positive for the coronavirus

The Mission Institution is on lockdown after the outbreak at the facility was discovered weeks ago

MISSION (NEWS 1130) – More inmates at a federal prison in Mission have tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Corrections Canada, 54 inmates at Mission Institution now have the coronavirus — up from 48 on Wednesday.

Seven of them are in the hospital, and several other inmates are still waiting to find out if they have COVID-19.

Meanwhile, six correctional officers working at the Mission Institution, which is currently under lockdown, have also tested positive since the outbreak was discovered almost two weeks ago.

The updated figures come just days after the wife of an inmate currently at the Mission Institution claimed basic needs were not being met at the federal prison.
