B.C. restaurant industry looking to set post-pandemic standards

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — The B.C. restaurant industry is looking to set a new post-pandemic dining standard.

Those involved are hoping to create a blueprint for re-opening that establishments across the continent can look to.

Ian Tostenson, with the BC Restaurant and Food Services Association, said there are plenty of ideas under consideration, whether it’s new ways of establishing physical distancing or looking into transforming some public areas into expanded patios.

“That would be a real pride moment, I think, for our industry, to say, ‘You know what, in the worst crisis that we ever had, in our entire lifetimes, that we were able to engineer a plan that gave some great recommendations,'” he said.

The industry is holding meetings with the province this week.

Tostenson is calling for local governments to be far more flexible in approving new patio space, in the name of safety.
