SURREY (NEWS 1130) — Three long-term care homes in the Fraser Health region have recorded new COVID-19 cases, while outbreaks at five others have been declared to be over.

In a statement Wednesday, the health authority said one case has been confirmed at the Eden Care Centre in Chilliwack, the Guildford Seniors Village in Surrey, and the New Vista Care Home in Burnaby.

The case at Eden Care centre is a resident, while the other two are staff members. All three people who have tested positive are in isolation and staff at all three homes are not working at any other facilities.

“Fraser Health is working with staff at Eden Care Centre, Guildford Seniors Village and New Vista Care Home to identify anyone who may have been exposed and is taking steps to protect the health of all staff, residents and families. Communication with residents and families notifying them of the outbreak is underway,” according to a release.

“Fraser Health will have a presence at the sites to take any further actions required and support the facility. This includes dedicated people to address quality, answer questions from staff, residents and family, and provide active checks of symptoms with staff and residents.”

Meanwhile, outbreaks are over at Amica in White Rock, Delta View Care Centre, Elim Village in Surrey, and Shaughnessy Care Centre, in Port Coquitlam which all have zero cases as of Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reported outbreaks remain at 20 long-term care and assisted-living facilities in B.C.

The majority of the 87 deaths from COVID-19 in B.C. so far have been seniors, many linked to care home
